October is slowly turning into my favorite time of year. Temperatures are just cool enough to make running pleasant on a daily basis. Leaves are changing colors and slowly starting to fall off. The fall colors out on the trails are just incredible. One of the best places in PA to see the fall beauty is the small city of Bethlehem. Our yearly pilgrimage to 4th annual Runner's World Festival did not disappoint.

TARC 100 - Wicked Epic Fail
Still bitter from my DNF at Eastern States in August, and with some persuasion from Amy, I decided to sign up for TARC 100. I was still in great shape and I recovered quickly after Eastern States. Why not give it another try. I was going to be up there anyway to crew and pace Amy. It was a perfect opportunity for both us to have a pacer for the entire thing. It was not meant to be.

Dirty German 50 - Hot and Humid? Jawohl!
Spring is a beautiful time of the year. Flowers are blooming, trees are starting to get green, and you can still feel that nice chill in the morning air. Lacing up your running shoes in the morning fills you with excitement, as you know those first few minutes will be a bit chilly, before the morning sun heats everything up. For this very reason, spring time races are a perfect time to get that PR that you have been training for all winter. With the weather like that, this would have been a pretty boring story. Mother nature had something else in mind for May in Philadelphia. Going from heat and warm gear directly to July like temperatures and humidity was the prescribed cocktail for this month.

Night and Day on the Blue Ridge Mountains
Running in the dark with just moonlight and the headlamp illuminating the Blue Ridge Parkway ahead is a feeling of happiness, freedom and eagerness for what comes next. In some ways, the first loop of the double Blue Ridge Marathon is difficult in that it starts when normal people sleep and the drunks are heading home, but it is also easy as you do not see much in front of you and you have no idea how long that next climb really is. Thus began our 2015 edition of the Blue Ridge Marathon.

The Hat 50K - Muddy, Mud, Mud
I have been in a terrible writer slump lately, hence the lack of posts on this blog since January. I don't even know why. Whenever I go out for a run I get all these great ideas, and then they just dissipate or I don't feel like they are worthy anymore. Finally some motivation has returned. No promises about future writing, but I will try. Last weekend I did the Hat 50K run for the 2nd year in a row, and now almost a week later I am still struggling to write about it.

Phunt You
Last January I sat at my computer in my warm house watching pictures come in from many friends running an epic race taking place in 6 inches of fresh snow, sub-zero temperatures just over the border in Maryland. Of course right away I had two thoughts. Why didn't I know about this race? I want to do it next year. Welcome to Phunt 50K 2015!

Philadelphia Marathon 2014 - Back With The Vengeance
I have been unlucky when it comes to road marathons. While I have excelled at other distances this particular one was my arch nemesis. After several bad road marathons last year, I've decided to make the 2014 Philadelphia Marathon my only real road effort this year (double marathon in Roanoke doesn't count). I wanted to be injury free, and ready to finally break 4 hours that has been haunting me from my very first marathon. I was back with the vengeance.

Cruising On Dry Land - Blues Cruise 50K
I zip up my jacket as I get into the car on this brisk Sunday morning. Temperatures are in the 40s which is the lowest its been in a while. The heat is necessary to get my body warmed up and to clear up the windows. I double-check that I have all my gear ready. Quick Dunkin Donuts stop for some pre-race fuel and I am off toward Reading for the 2014 edition of Blues Cruise 50K.

Rethink Running – 3 Steps to Injury Free Running
We, runners, are an interesting lot. We often do not know
when to stop. Every day, we go out and run. We follow our training plans
blindly, regardless of how we feel that day. If the plan tells us to do a 5
mile tempo run, we go out and do it. 50 mile week even when
something is bothering us, sure. We often ignore our body. Little niggle here
and there, little soreness here or there, it is all normal, right? We shrug it
off and keep running. And then it happens. The I word – the Injury.

Born to Run 100K - Corre Libre
Instead of writing my usual race report on this blog, I was able to publish my Born to Run 100K race report on Trail and Ultra. I have been contributing to Trail and Ultra since the new year and am currently working on more articles. Article link after the jump.
